Newcastle leading race to sign winger with £13m release clause – Report

Newcastle United supporters will be hoping for a busy January transfer window for all the right reasons after a total lack of first-team additions over in 2024.

Things have gone a little stale as of late and Eddie Howe could really do with a couple of fresh faces to liven things up and give the rest of the players a spark to push on in the second half of the season.

One of those players that continues to be linked is Boca Juniors winger Kevin Zenon, and those rumours are not going away as we edge closer to January.

According to Italian outlet L’Interista, Newcastle are said to be in ‘pole position’ to beat Inter Milan to the 23-year-old, who increased his tally to six goals for the season when he netted against Newell’s Old Boys on Sunday.

They report that Zenon’s impressive form has attracted interest from Italian giants Inter Milan, while fellow Premier League sides Brighton and Tottenham are also believed to be in the running.

However, it’s believed Newcastle are the current favourites to land the Argentine, who has a release clause of around £13m in his contract, making him a fairly affordable target for any top club in the upcoming winter window.

Zenon is not a specialist right-winger. He can operate down both flanks and continues to do so for Boca Juniors, but the majority of his football has come down the left side.

With Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon both at their best down the left, it wouldn’t make a great deal of sense to bring in another wide man who prefers to play off that side.

As has been the case for the last couple of seasons, it’s down the opposite flank where Newcastle are crying out for an improvement and playing Gordon out of position so far has not proved to be the solution.

It does feel like a bit of a long shot given the need to bring in a few other positions first, but our long held interest in the Argentinian certainly suggests that he is one to watch over the next couple of windows.
