Cam Newton believes that the Green Bay Packers are not yet Super Bowl contenders, especially after they lost 34-31 to the Detroit Lions last Thursday in a game that could have huge implications for the playoff race.

According to the one-time NFL MVP and Super Bowl finalist, the Green Bay Packers should be able to qualify for the postseason, but not the Super Bowl this year.
“Legit playoff contenders? Yes. Super Bowl contenders? Not so fast,” Newton said on ESPN First Take. “There was some things I seen in last night’s game where I thought okay Jordan Love is legit. The Green Bay Packers are legit. There were also some times where I was watching the game and I’m like uhhh I don’t know.”
“So if I’m just being honest, playoff contenders yes. Super Bowl contenders, not so fast,” he concluded.

Green Bay Packers can clinch their playoff berth in the next game
Despite a recent loss to the Detroit Lions, Green Bay are in a favorable position to qualify for the playoffs. They may have been eliminated from the NFC North race, but they can still make it by aiming for a wildcard spot, either as a fifth or sixth seed.

Beating the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday could effectively secure their playoff spot, while the outcomes of the remaining games will dictate their seeding.
Once they enter the playoffs, the Green Bay Packers will likely have to go through the Detroit Lions to get to the Super Bowl.
