“I would like that” – Transfer flirting from player with Liverpool and Chelsea in mix to sign him

Liverpool and Chelsea are among the clubs in the picture for Club Brugge’s Joel Ordóñez.

Last month, we covered claims from Ecuador which stated Chelsea had sent a scout to watch the defender in action for the Jupiler Pro League side. There’s also been claims about Liverpool looking at him.

Het Laatste Nieuws now backs up both Arne Slot’s side and the Blues interest in the 20-year-old.

They add it doesn’t stop with Liverpool and Chelsea, indicating there are other clubs chasing the Ecuador international.

Club Brugge signed the centre-back from Independiente del Valle for their youth team in 2022 and promoted him to their first team a year later.

He’s been a regular this season, making 18 appearances in all competitions, and scored his first goal for Club Brugge against KV Mechelen last weekend. Ordóñez’s performances have seen him attract interest from Liverpool, Chelsea and other clubs.

Back in August, the South American signed a new deal until 2028. Liverpool and Chelsea have received encouragement after the player expressed his desire to make a switch to the Premier League.

“The Premier League, I would like that,” he said, as quoted by HLN.

Club Brugge manager Nicky Hayen is aware his side won’t be able to do much to stop him from leaving in the near future.

On growing interest in Ordóñez, Hayen explained: “That’s ultimately what you want as a player. What makes me happy is that Joel always does his job despite the interest.

“You have no control over when that transfer will happen. It could be in the winter, but it could also be after this season, which we would prefer.”
