The Raiders and Giants are in desperate need of franchise quarterbacks. And there's a good chance they will be set up to fulfill that in the 2025 NFL draft.
Las Vegas now controls the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft because the Jaguars defeated the Titans on Sunday. New York is currently slotted to pick second as the other team with only two wins this season.
It only continued to be a disaster for both teams at the quarterback position this past weekend in their respective games.
Making his second start since returning from injured reserve, Aidan O'Connell was carted off with a bone bruise to his left knee during the Raiders' loss to the Buccaneers.
Drew Lock had a poor passing performance in the Giants' loss to the Saints, completing 21 of 49 passes for 227 yards and an interception. Lock didn't engineer a scoring until late in the fourth quarter.
Colorado's Shedeur Sanders and Miami's Cam Ward have made their case as the top signal-callers in this draft class and will now continue to push each other over the next few months for the label of QB1.
Sanders has been linked to the Raiders. His dad and Colorado head coach, Deion Sanders, told Antonio Pierce that he would like him to draft his sons earlier this year. He also recently posted an Instagram story of Allegiant Stadium with the word 'Legendary.'
Ward's strong season propelled him into his current position. He will need to work on limiting turnover-worthy plays, but the Raiders and Giants should be intrigued by his command of the offense, arm talent, and athleticism.
