Leicester City's January transfer plans are now scuppered after Premier League manager's…

Leicester City’s plans to recruit in January have been dealt a big blow thanks to comments from one Premier League manager.

The Foxes are aiming to strengthen their squad in the 2025 January transfer window.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was asked about Leicester City’s transfer plans last week and gave a positive response.

The Dutchman confirmed there will be funds available, which will be music to fan’s ears.

However, even if there is money to be spent, it’s unlikely to be too much given the club’s financial situation.

We recently provided an update on Leicester’s financial situation, speaking to TBR’s Head of Football Content, Business, Finance & Governance, Adam Williams to do so.

He predicted we will see more outgoings than incomings in the Midlands in January, stating: “If I had to make a forecast, I would say you’re more likely to see sales outweigh new arrivals in January.”

In turn, it seems as though Ruud will have to be very smart about which and how he brings in players next month.

Oliver Glasner makes stance on Leicester City loanee Odsonne Edouard clear

With the budget likely to be limited, Van Nistelrooy can sign free agents for Leicester, with several decent options still available.

Another money-saving avenue the Foxes could explore is bringing in players on loan during the winter window.

However, Leicester’s ability to do so now looks set to be hampered after the comments of one Premier League boss.

Odsonne Edouard joined the club on a season-long loan from Crystal Palace in August and has been very poor since then.

Speaking late last week, as per Your Local Guardian, Oliver Glasner killed off any hope of the Eagles recalling the striker in January.

He said: “We always follow our loan players But, to be honest, especially this week with three games, it’s not my highest priority to think about Odsonne [Edouard].

“I don’t know about the contract details. From our side, It makes no sense to bring him back because if he’s not playing at Leicester, then why should he play for Crystal Palace?”

Why Odsonne Edouard stance is bad news for Leicester City

Crystal Palace are currently one point below Leicester in the Premier League table after 14 games.

In turn, the fact his manager isn’t even considering bringing him back to Selhurst Park shows just how poor Edouard has been of late.

Leicester being stuck with a player who isn’t getting any meaningful minutes and underperforming is bad enough.

But his continued stint at the King Power also means that Van Nistelrooy cannot sign any Premier League players on loan in January.

With Facundo Buonanotte excelling, there is no chance of his loan being terminated. It therefore made sense for Leicester to speak with Palace and get Edouard’s deal finished early.

But with Glasner seemingly so against the forward returning early, it seems likely the Foxes will be stuck with him all season and won’t be able to sign any Premier League players on loan next month as no club can have more than two on loan at once.
