Bookmakers have slashed prices on Eddie Howe to face the chop at Newcastle United.

A four-game winless run has seen the knives sharpen on the Toon boss for the first time since disappointment three years ago. While the majority of fans appear to be behind Howe, a growing contingent on social media are expressing discontent.

Failing to put Leicester City to the sword at St James’ Park this weekend may cause more to turn ahead of a hectic festive period. Newcastle face a crucial week, with the Foxes clash followed by a Carabao Cup quarter-final against Brentford and a trip to Ipswich Town.

On Boxing Day, the Magpies welcome Aston Villa to Tyneside before travelling to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. Supporters will have a clearer perception of where Newcastle are heading under its current guise come January 4.

Bookies have already cut the odds on Howe to be the next manager sacked to 20/1. For context, that is the lowest he has been since the start of the 2022-23 campaign (8/1) when Newcastle went on to finish fourth.

Gary O’Neil is the front-runner at 2/7 following Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 2-1 defeat to West Ham United last night. Julen Lopetegui is next as the victory did little to quell discontent from Hammers supporters.

Russell Martin at Southampton is 8/1 while Ange Postecoglou has also propelled up the running (13/2) as Tottenham Hotspur fans begin to turn. Spurs once again blew a two-goal lead on Sunday, with Chelsea coming from behind to stun them 4-2 on home soil.

Howe still trails the aforementioned managers in the sack race but, as stated, that could change with another dismal performance against Leicester. His price will also likely plummet if Wolves pull the trigger on O’Neil before the next round of Premier League fixtures.
