For Wake Forest and ACC fans, not to mention NBA fans, Muggsy Bogues is an iconic figure.
Just 5-3, Bogues terrorized the ACC for four seasons before moving on the the NBA. John Chaney, the late Temple coach, said that trying to take the ball from Bogue was like trying to take it from a groundhog.
He was even more frightening on defense because he was so small, and so quick, that you never knew where he was. Toss in a 44 Inch vertical and his relentless desire to compete and he was just impossible to deal with.
In this video, Bogues talks about various things but mostly about playing in the NBA at such. diminutive height.
The coolest thing about him was that he took what should have been a huge disadvantage and turned it into a terrific advantage. No one really could deal with him. There are videos all over the place of him stripping Michael Jordan, or even blocking Patrick Ewing.
In Part II of the series, he talks about his father going to prison and in Part III, he talks about being shot when he was just five years old. We loved him as a player but even more as a man.
