'Deserve it': Man Utd U21 gem signs contract extension, Shea Lacey reacts

Amid board-level shake-ups, Manchester United have now moved to extend one talented youngster’s contract.

While Ruben Curley is not one of the academy’s biggest names with the likes of Amir Ibragimov, Chido Obi-Martin and Gabriele Biancheri all taking the spotlight.

Curley’s development has been hindered by his torn ACL in 2023, which he has been gradually recovering for Manchester United from since.

The 19-year-old was a key part of last season’s U18 treble-winning side under Adam Lawrence.

Now, as a testament to his talent, Ruben Amorim has already had a look at the midfielder in recent weeks. Curley was involved in first-team training under Amorim on week one of the Portuguese coach’s reign.

Curley captioned this with a heart and a signing emoji, as he is clearly happy to be signed to longer terms.

In the responses, Shea Lacey was one to react, commenting: “Deserve it brother”, followed by a heart and clapping emoji.

Biancheri and Harry Amass commented a clapping and heart emoji respectively.

James Nolan, Tyler Fletcher, Jacob Devaney, James Overy and Dan Gore all commented emojis as well ranging from hearts to clapping emojis.

This is a clear decision that his teammates are pleased by.

How has Ruben Curley fared for Manchester United this season?

Curley has been promoted to the U21s this season, while also being involved in first-team training on a few occasions.

However, his season has been halted in recent weeks.

Despite being a regular through August and September, Curley has not played since September 27th, and has not even been with the squad since assisting in a 5-3 win over Norwich.

This we hope is not injury-related, however, if it isn’t then it would be surprising that he has not been seen in so long.

Therefore, January should see him among those looking for a loan, with Dan Gore among the youngsters expected to be on the way out.

The contract shows the club are happy with Curley, now at 19 he needs game-time.
