Desire to sign Southampton player in January – Fee negotiations could make summer likelier

According to a claim in the Turkish media, Besiktas are close to getting a deal over the line to sign Southampton forward Paul Onuachu.

In recent weeks the Nigeria international has been linked with a move to the Black Eagles following his impressive loan spell with Trabzonspor last season.

Star report on Besiktas’ search for a centre forward as they look to take the load off Ciro Immobile. It’s claimed the Istanbul side have offered the Southampton player a three-year contract and are keen to bring in the 30-year-old during the next transfer window.

However, the Turkish media outlet say a transfer to Besiktas is likelier to happen in the summer as they look to agree a low transfer fee with Southampton. Onuachu is also said to be keen on a return to the Super Lig after finding his chances limited this season with the Premier League side.

During his loan spell with Trabzonspor the Nigerian scored 19 goals, and the Turkish side were looking to re-sign him during the summer. Despite constant transfer talks with Southampton they were unable to agree on a fee.

Onuachu is contracted to the Saints until June 2026.
