According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona may face a significant setback in their pursuit of Napoli’s star winger, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, as the Italian side is working on renewing the player’s contract in the coming weeks.
It is said that the proposed new deal includes a major salary hike that would triple Kvaratskhelia’s current wages, demonstrating how much the Italian club values their prized asset.
Interestingly, despite their previous stand, Kvaratskhelia and his representatives are now open to signing an extension that would keep him at Napoli until 2029, provided the deal includes a release clause not exceeding €80 million.
Why the release clause?
This figure is seen as reasonable and aligned with the current market, making it feasible for potential transfer discussions in the future.
However, Napoli are reportedly hesitant about including such a clause, as it could make it easier for clubs like Barcelona to negotiate his transfer.

On the other hand, failing to secure his renewal could be risky for Napoli, as the winger’s current contract is set to expire in 2026.
Barcelona are aware
Barcelona, meanwhile, are closely monitoring these developments. The player has shown interest in joining the Catalan giants at some point in his career, but the club has yet to make any formal moves.
For now, Barça appear to be waiting for a clearer picture to emerge regarding Kvaratskhelia’s situation. From January onwards, if the renewal deal is finalised, Barcelona will evaluate their options and decide on their next steps.
It is said that the club views Kvaratskhelia as a player who fits perfectly into their style of play, considering him one of the standout options among other wingers like Nico Williams and Rafael Leao.
While they have not made any concrete offers yet, they are keeping a close eye on the Georgian’s future. If all parties align, a transfer could become a realistic possibility down the line.
