In the summer window, Liverpool agreed a deal with Valencia for Giorgi Mamardashvili to arrive at Anfield after the end of this season.
The goalkeeper’s impressive performances for the La Liga side convinced Liverpool to bet on him.
At the weekend, the 24-year-old played the full 90 minutes in his side’s 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano. On Monday, El Chiringuito reported the incoming Liverpool player suffered a thigh injury.
AS now provide more on the Georgia international’s fitness setback and it will concern Liverpool.
It’s stated the stopper suffered a muscle injury against Rayo Vallecano but still ended up playing the entire match. He underwent tests and it has shown a ‘muscle tear’ in his thigh that will keep him out of action for three weeks.
This means Mamardashvili has been ruled out for rest of this year and will miss Los Ches next three matches. Stole Dimitrievski is set to replace the Georgian until he regains full fitness.
Liverpool, meanwhile, will keep a close eye on his injury situation at the Spanish club. Valencia will be keen to rush him back given their battle against relegation, but that could obviously cause longer term issues with the muscle area involved.
Mamardashvili has kept three clean sheets and conceded 22 goals from 14 matches for Valencia this season.
