Leeds United would be bringing in the catalyst to secure Premier League promotion if the club signed James McAtee, according to David Norris.

Former Whites midfielder Norris has revealed he helped train Manchester City star McAtee during the summer, enabling him to realise the true impact he could have at Elland Road.

Norris has branded McAtee a “Man City type of player” and detailed what sets him apart, as he finds himself on the periphery in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Having gained a season of experience in the top flight with Sheffield United last term, McAtee, 22, could seek a winter loan in a bid to upgrade his minutes.

“I actually had the pleasure of helping train him during the off-season. He came in for a few sessions with his brother, so I know he’s a great lad,” Norris exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“The way he moved, you could tell he was that Man City type of player. His centre of gravity, his ability on the turn… a top player. Pep Guardiola must see something in him, but it’s obviously just so difficult to break into that team.

“I think if Leeds can get him, it would be a huge signing and a huge boost of quality to help get the club over the line and back to the Premier League.”

Leeds United in for James McAtee?

Leeds United are expected to be busy throughout January in a bid to improve squad depth, with an array of glittering Championship stars already delivering for Daniel Farke.

McAtee came through the ranks at Man City but in two separate loan spells at Sheffield United, secured promotion and then featured regularly in the Premier League.

The England Under-21 midfielder has played eight times in all competitions so far this season for City including twice in the Premier League, and scored his first senior goal for the club in the Champions League against Slovan Bratislava.
