Manchester United could compete with Arsenal for 60-year-old Portuguese transfer guru Luis Campos, who has thrived at Paris Saint-Germain.
According to a report by i paper, Luis Campos is the subject of interest from Arsenal. Manchester United could also pursue PSG’s Football Advisor if they dip their toes in the market for a new sporting director. The Red Devils have recently parted ways with Dan Ashworth.
Luis Campos and his story
Luis Campos has been one of the leading names behind the scenes. A right-back as a footballer, he did not enjoy a long and fruitful professional career, hanging up his boots as a 21-year-old after a short stint with CF Fao. He entered the managerial sphere as a 27-year-old but did not manage a high-profile club before moving away from the coaching world nearly two decades ago.
Since then, the 60-year-old has gone from strength to strength as a transfer guru, initially rising in prominence during his spell with Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho. Campos then made his name as a sporting director during his stint with AS Monaco. He has been an expert in Ligue 1, excelling at LOSC Lille and Paris Saint-Germain.
The Portuguese transfer guru has been with PSG since June 2022, although he has taken up the role of Football Advisor. Campos’s stock in the market remains as high as ever, with Arsenal among his prospective suitors. However, Manchester United might also launch the offensive for him next year.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Arsenal’s interest in Luis Campos is understandable. The Gunners are scouring the market for a new sporting director after Edu decided to call time on his spell with the North London outfit. So, several candidates, including Roberto Olabe, are on Arsenal’s radar, with Campos also a viable target.
As for Manchester United, Dan Ashworth’s short spell at the club has come to a shocking end this month. The transfer guru’s stint lasted only five months, and the Red Devils have parted ways with him. So, Manchester United might dip into the market for a new sporting director, although it is unclear when they will begin their search.
Nevertheless, the report has suggested that Manchester United could compete with Arsenal for the 60-year-old Portuguese transfer guru. It will be interesting to see if Campos’s spell with PSG will end next year.
