Our under-19s will aim to end their UEFA Youth League campaign on a high note as they face Monaco in the final group game on Wednesday, 11 November. Kick-off is scheduled for 1pm (UK) at Mangata Pay UK Stadium.
Following our defeat to Sporting Lisbon in the previous round, it is now mathematically impossible for us to qualify for the knockout stages, as we can no longer secure a top-22 finish in the group standings.
The Opposition: Monaco
----------------------
Monaco's U19 side competes in Group D of the Championnat National, the highest level of U19 football in France. Their domestic season has been challenging so far, as they sit at the bottom of the table with just 10 points from 15 matches. Their record includes two wins, four draws, and nine losses, with their latest setback being a 2-0 defeat to Colomiers at the weekend.
However, Monaco has performed significantly better in the UEFA Youth League. They currently occupy 18th place with eight points and are in a strong position to progress to the knockout stages.
Their campaign began with a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory over Barcelona, overcoming 2-0 and 3-2 deficits. They followed up with a loss away to Dinamo Zagreb, then drew back-to-back games against Red Star Belgrade (1-1) and Bologna (0-0). A vital 2-1 victory over Benfica in their last match has put them on the verge of qualification.
A draw or a win against the Gunners will secure Monaco’s place in the next round.
Youth League Pedigree
---------------------
This is Monaco’s fifth appearance in the UEFA Youth League. Their best performances came in consecutive seasons, 2016/17 and 2017/18, when they reached the round of 16. On both occasions they were eliminated, losing to Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
