Chelsea’s squad is proving to be a huge strength of theirs in the opening half of the season, but it does mean that several quality first-team stars are left on the bench on a regular basis.
If you look at the current Chelsea squad, it’s both incredibly talented and deep. Therefore, Enzo Maresca has found it relatively easy as the Blues manager to make wholesale changes between the Premier League and various cup competitions.
The Blues currently sit second in the league table after 15 gameweeks to make it a superb debut season so far under Maresca.
Chelsea told their big-name players opportunities will arise during a busy schedule. In fairness, Enzo Fernandez is a perfect example of a high-profile player going from the fringes to a key figure in the XI in such a short space of time.

Julien Laurens baffled that Chelsea don’t start Filip Jorgensen
ESPN pundit Julien Laurens has shared his frustration with Chelsea’s goalkeeper situation.
Robert Sanchez is the current first-choice keeper at Stamford Bridge, while Filip Jorgensen is his understudy. However, there’s widespread debate from supporters and the media that the wrong man is wearing the gloves in the Premier League.
“I think Jorgensen is way better than Sanchez. I don’t understand why Jorgensen is not playing. I really don’t understand that,” Laurens told ESPN.
Jorgensen, 22, has made nine appearances across all competitions so far during his debut season at Chelsea. However, the young goalkeeper’s sole Premier League appearance came last week when a heavily-rotated side beat Southampton 5-1 away from home.

Sanchez continues as the Blues’ number one gloveman, playing in 14 of the 15 league games this campaign. He’s kept just three clean sheets and made some high-profile errors, though.
Jamie O’Hara doesn’t think Sanchez should start for Chelsea because he’s a huge problem at the back.
Maresca continues to keep faith in the more experienced Spanish shot-stopper, but Jorgensen is making a compelling case to be Chelsea’s main goalkeeper whenever he features.
Chelsea should give Filip Jorgensen his chance
Jorgensen has been gradually introduced into Chelsea’s first team since joining from Villarreal in a £21m deal (BBC) during the summer. However, now is the time for him to get a run as the club’s main goalkeeper in the Premier League.
In general, Maresca has been brave and decisive in his decisions this year. Therefore, it would be great to see him follow that pattern and make a big change in-between the sticks.
During Jorgensen’s appearances this season, he’s shown great reflexes with some top saves. He looks far more comfortable than Sanchez with the ball at his feet, too.
Peter Crouch thinks Chelsea should start Jorgensen in the league because he’s not put a foot wrong yet this season.
