Giorgi Mamardashvili, signed by Liverpool in the summer, picked up an injury during Valencia’s recent 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano.
Valencia are enduring a difficult season in La Liga, currently occupying 19th place with just 10 points from their opening 14 matches.
Their struggles are reflected in their record of just two wins, four draws, and eight losses while scoring only 13 goals and conceding 22 during this period.
In fact, the historic La Liga side was also struggling last season, with the Reds allowing the Georgian to remain at the Mestalla Stadium for this season was a big reason they agreed to the transfer.
The Reds decided to fork out £29.6 million, including add-ons, over the recent summer transfer window for the services of the 23-year-old from the 2024/25 campaign.
However, the Anfield club has gotten a bit of a scare regarding their substantial investment.
Giorgi Mamardashvili injury diagnosis revealed
Giorgi Mamardashvili had to be treated during Valencia’s 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano over the weekend.
Reports from Spain initially pinpointed the injury as an injury in the ‘rectus femoris’ of his right leg, a muscle in the thigh area.
Mamardashvili underwent medical tests to determine the extent of the damage and how long he will be out.
The Georgian will be key to Valencia’s chance of La Liga survival this season, with his league performance very strong:
Stat Value
Appearances 14 matches
Minutes played 1,260
Clean sheets 3
Goals conceded 19
Saves 29
Save percentage 58%
Shots faced 50
And now Spanish outlet AS has revealed how severe the thigh injury is.
According to their report, the Valencia shot-stopper suffered a muscle tear and will miss the next three weeks as a result.
It is highly unlikely that Mamardashvili will play before 2025.
For Valencia, he misses huge games against Valladolid, Espanyol, and Alavés – described as key six-pointers in the La Liga relegation battle.
For Liverpool, the news could have been worse but also better – but at least it does not seem like an injury with long-term consequences.
