Chelsea are scouting Premier League defender who Cole Palmer absolutely destroyed last season - journalist

Chelsea could sign one of Cole Palmer’s victims from last season as they consider strengthening their defence.

There were, of course, many, with Cole Palmer having a phenomenal 2023/24 campaign at Chelsea.

In total, the attacking midfielder scored 22 goals in the Premier League, with four coming in a single game against Everton.

That, however, does not look to have deterred Chelsea away from Jarrad Branthwaite, who they are now being linked with.

Chelsea scouting Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite

Chelsea added to their central defence during the summer after signing Tosin Adarabioyo, while Renato Veiga can also play in that area of the pitch.

It looks like the Blues are still interested in buying another centre-back, though.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea have scouted Branthwaite this season and he is one name currently on their shortlist.

On Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, he wrote: “Everton and England centre back Jarrad Branthwaite is still being looked at. In fact, Chelsea are scouting him this season along with many of the other top clubs including Manchester United.”

This is not the first time that Chelsea have been linked with Branthwaite. At the start of the year, it was claimed that Chelsea discussed Branthwaite as an option.

Cole Palmer destroyed Jarrad Branthwaite

Branthwaite would probably welcome a move to Stamford Bridge, as it would mean that he would not have to play against Palmer again.

Last season, in Chelsea’s 6-0 win against Everton, the England international nutmegged his opponent before curling the ball into the Toffees’ bottom corner.

Branthwaite is one defender in the Premier League who can explain to others how tough it is to defend against Palmer.

Tottenham’s backline also struggled to contain the former Manchester City man over the weekend.

Palmer scored two penalties and played a key role in Enzo Fernandez’s goal. Destiny Udogie could not handle Palmer, according to Manchester United and England legend Rio Ferdinand.

Ultimately, as a defender, you want Palmer as a teammate, not an opponent. And Chelsea could give Branthwaite the chance to be just that in the future.
