West Ham United are all set to intensify their efforts to strike a deal for Brighton forward Evan Ferguson in January.
According to a report from Football Insider, West Ham United are interested in acquiring the services of Evan Ferguson. The Hammers were looking to bring in a new striker in the winter transfer window and they stepped up their efforts following Michail Antonio’s road accident.
West Ham need a new number nine
The Jamaican international was the first choice strike at the London club under Julen Lopetegui. While they still have Danny Ings and Niclas Fullkrug in their squad, neither have been effective enough of late. The German international has struggled with injuries while Ings has been on the decline in recent years.
With Ings and Antonio’s contract running out at the end of the season, the Hammers were considering signing a new striker in January. But, with Antonio undergoing surgery on a lower limb fracture which will keep him out for some time, West Ham have decided to go hard for a new number nine.
The Hammers want to sign Evan Ferguson
Brighton’s Evan Ferguson has caught their attention. The 20-year-old striker seeks more game time and is all set to part ways with the Seagulls on a temporary basis in the winter window. With him available, the Hammers have decided to intensify their efforts to sign the Irish sensation.
While Nottingham Forest and Leeds United have also been linked with a move for the Brighton ace, West Ham have recently entered the race and the Irons are pushing hard to ensure they come out on top. His availability is one of the major reasons why he is at the top of the Hammers’ wishlist.
Ferguson has been left frustrated by the fact that he has only received 197 minutes in the Premier League across his 10 appearances. With Lopetegui’s team confident that they could offer him regular minutes in the league, the 20-year-old will surely think hard about making the move and getting his career back on track. While a permanent deal will only benefit West Ham, a loan move looks most likely outcome at this stage.
