**Manchester City’s legendary head coach Pep Guardiola has confirmed that his position at the Etihad Stadium will be his final managerial job at club level.**
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich head coach extended his stay at Manchester City by a further two years last month, amid uncertainty over his future with his previous agreement running until the end of the ongoing season.
While there had been a feeling in various quarters that Guardiola would only extend his stay by a further year, with the option of a further 12 months, Manchester City confirmed in their official statement that the contract was a flat two-year extension.
As such, Guardiola will take his reign at the Etihad Stadium beyond a decade having arrived at the club in the summer of 2016, and will likely oversee the rebuild of his squad ready for a successor to arrive at some stage beyond 2027.
The Catalan tactician has made no secret of his desire to manager on the international stage and at a major national team tournament in his career, and this week has revealed that Manchester City will be his final team at club level of the sport.
Speaking to Marbella-born chef Dani Garcia on [his _Desmontadito_ YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8s6ru5aU_pA), Pep Guardiola also admitted that at the moment, he is simply unable to leave club football despite wanting to at times and turning to golf as a result.
“I want to leave it and go and play golf but I can’t,” Guardiola said, as [translated and relayed by The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/pep-guardiola-mancity-quit-future-34284076). “A time will come when I feel it’s enough and I’ll definitely stop then.”
The 53-year-old also revealed that his position at Manchester City will be his final managerial role in club football, but kept the door open to the idea of managing a national team at some stage in his career.
“I’m not going to manage another team,” Guardiola continued. “I’m not talking about the long-term future but what I’m not going to do is leave Manchester City and go to another country to do the same thing as I am now.”
He went on to explain, “I wouldn’t have the energy to do so. I’m still here doing what I am today. But the thought of starting off somewhere else, with all the process of the training and so on… no, no, no! Maybe a national team but that’s different.
“I should stop, like these chefs that go to other countries, stop and see what we’ve done well and what we could do better and when you’re busy all day day after day you don’t have time to do that. I think stopping would do me good.”
Pep Guardiola has been linked with a multitude of national team jobs, and is believed to have been the number one choice for the Football Association over the summer months, before they penned an agreement with Thomas Tuchel to succeed Gareth Southgate in the England role.
Other federations have been connected with tenuous interest in Guardiola despite his strong affiliation and commitment to Manchester City, including Brazil – who moved to deny any talks or conversations the Catalan’s camp.
There is also a belief in some quarters that the Netherlands could attract Guardiola in some capacity, given the former Barcelona midfielder’s inspiration and love for Johan Cruyff and the manner in which the legendary Dutchman changed the sport.
