The New York Jets were on the road in Miami, Florida on Sunday to take on their division rivals, the Miami Dolphins. Maybe a good old fashioned AFC East rivalry game could pull the Jets out of their season-long funk. Or maybe not. The Jets scored every time they touched the ball in the first three quarters of the game. Aaron Rodgers had his first 300 yard game in forever. Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson both went over 100 yards receiving. And the Jets still found a way to lose the game. They squandered an eight point fourth quarter lead, completely mismanaged what should have been a game-winning field goal drive, and lost in overtime to the Dolphins.
With the Jets defense now a big liability instead of the big asset it has been until very recently, this team is just lost. There is nothing this team does well. Nothing. In a season the Jets were supposed to be contenders, the team is now a legitimate contender for the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
How did the power rankings feel about this latest Jets travesty? Let’s find out.
CBS Sports
30. Jets 3-10 (29)
At least they showed some fight in losing to Miami in overtime. But where has that been all season?
Sports Illustrated
29. New York Jets (3-10)
Last week’s ranking: No. 29
Last week’s result: lost to Miami, 32 - 26
This week: at Jacksonville
How about this for a statistic: If you remove Robert Saleh’s first season with the Jets, which was kind of a wash with a horrible roster that needed to be torched in a brushfire, the coach was 13–3 in games in which the Jets scored 20 or more points (17–7 even if you include that first season). Since Saleh was fired, the Jets are 1–5 in such games. Sunday’s game against the Dolphins was a clinic in how to wither in the fourth quarter, from being unable to pick up a first down after gaining seven yards on first-and-10, to taking big, gutting sacks while in field goal range, to kicking the ball right at a dynamic return man…this mess requires professional help for cleanup. You know, kind of like the help they got rid of.

28. New York Jets (3-10)
Week 14 result: Lost to the Dolphins 32 - 26
Week 14 ranking: 27
Most shocking ranking: T-28th in takeaways
It’s hard to believe a defense with three players who earned All-Pro or Pro Bowl status in 2023 (cornerback Sauce Gardner, linebacker Quincy Williams and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams) has only 10 takeaways in 13 games. That includes only two interceptions (both by backup cornerback Brandin Echols). In fact, the Jets have yet to record an interception since Jeff Ulbrich became the interim coach eight games ago. Scheme, coaching and underperforming players have contributed to the turnover shortage.
USA Today
28.New York Jets (28): When constantly falling short of the playoffs, you get associated with the likes of the Buffalo Sabres and Los Angeles Angels. But rejoice, Jets fans – even if QB Aaron Rodgers won’t be around much longer to let you down, new Mets OF Juan Soto allegedly will be breaking your hearts for the next 15 years.
The power rankings have settled the Jets into a tight range in the basement of the NFL. They are now contending for the title of worst team in the league at a high of 28 and a low of 30. In short, the Jets stink.
What do you think? Where should the Jets rank in the NFL power rankings?
