Manchester United are ‘open’ to cashing-in on Marcus Rashford as Sir Jim Ratcliffe attempts to navigate a major issue.

The Red Devils academy graduate is in the middle of a stuttering campaign in which he has scored just seven goals in 23 appearances in all competitions. That form comes after a season in which he netted on just eight occasions.

Rashford still has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford. The 60-time England international banks around £325,000-per-week.

And that is one of the main reasons why the Red Devils are keen to cash-in on Rashford. According to reports in Germany, United would potentially be open to selling him in January - while they could also field offers next summer.

Should they manage to get his lofty wages off of their shoulders, it could potentially give the club more manoeuvrability in the transfer market. Sir Jim Ratcliffe has laid particular importance on the Red Devils abiding by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability spending rules since his arrival and a significant sale would greatly help.

Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a move for Rashford in the past, while a move to Saudi Arabia could be an option, according to The Telegraph. United boss Amorim has recently offered his take on Rashford and claims that the forward has to be the driving force behind any revival.

"We'll try to find the right solution for him but he has to be Marcus, first of all, to try to return to that moment," he said. "Then he will have all the help of the staff, the club and the fans because he is a Manchester United boy. But he has to be the first one to want it."

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim has admitted that he is still trying to work out Rashford’s best position in his system. Following a draw with Ipswich in his opening game, he added: “That position [against Ipswich] is not the best one for him. Especially in a game like that, he was fighting with two giants [the centre-backs] and we will try to find the right solution for him.”

Rashford, 27, has made 425 appearances in all for United since making his debut during the 2015/16 season. He has scored 138 goals and provided 67 assists in the time since.

He has enjoyed a mini revival under Amorim since his arrival with three goals in four Premier League outings. Rashford will be aiming to extend that form over the coming week.

The Red Devils travel to Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday. They then travel to the Etihad at the weekend for a showdown with rivals Manchester City.
