The only carrot dangling in front of the New York Jets is now gone after the 32-26 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins saw them officially eliminated from playoff contention.
Prior to the season, the Jets were seen at the very least, a playoff team, with some thinking that with Aaron Rodgers back healthy, New York could maybe win the Super Bowl.
Well, things haven't played out that way and a day removed from the loss to Miami, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich has revealed the plan fo attack for his team.
"I thought it was an opportunity to take a second to just reset," Ulbrich said. "There's some real frustration obviously on both sides of this from coaching, playing, the whole thing. The process has been right, and that's the most frustrating part, I know I've articulated that, and I thought it was an opportunity for them to just regroup and take a breath for a second."
As the reality of the Jets' situation sinks in, the big question now is how the team will respond with nothing to play for. ... with the brutal truth about their 14-year playoff drought hanging over their heads.
Of course, that "nothing to play for'' thing could have been said for the last few weeks, but the playoffs, while a long shot, still remained a possibility-but not anymore.

Receiver Davante Adams spoke of keeping the main thing the main thing and to keep working and playing for pride. Given that's all New York has to play for now, it isn't an ideal spot to be in.
In a year where the Jets have suffered blow after blow, this latest hit might be the hardest one to recover from.
