2023 Flying Eagles invitee sends message to Eguavoen with ninth clean sheet for AFC Wimbledon

Crystal Palace loanee Owen Goodman is pushing for a call-up to the Super Eagles ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March 2025, following stellar performances for AFC Wimbledon, **allnigeriasoccer.com** reports.

There is a three-way battle for the services of Goodman, with the goalkeeper eligible to represent the national teams of England, Canada and Nigeria.

The tri-national player has caps at youth level for the Young Lions and Reds but is currently leaning towards representing Nigeria.

Goodman visited Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Gusau in Abuja at the end of the 2023-2024 season.

He received an invitation to the Flying Eagles training camp in January 2023 before the U20 Africa Cup of Nations but did not attend as he was waiting for a call-up to the England Men's Elite League Squad, which he eventually received.

By delivering consistently impressive displays for AFC Wimbledon, Goodman has proven to Nigeria's interim boss, Augustine Eguavoen, that he merits a spot in the Super Eagles team.

Chippa United captain Stanley Nwabali and Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye are guaranteed roster spots if fully fit but it is believed the third goalkeeper spot is there for the taking.

Goodman has showcased his qualities this season, posting nine shutouts in twenty-three appearances across all competitions.

The Crystal Palace-owned goalkeeper holds the record for the most clean sheets in the fourth tier of English football this season.

The 21-year-old Goodman does not need to file a change of association request with Fifa to play for the Super Eagles as his youth team caps for England and Canada were in friendly matches.
