The Cowboys’ loss to the Bengals on Monday night dropped them to 5-8 on the season and left them with scant hope of making it to the playoffs this season, but that’s not going to lead to a shift in their plan at quarterback.
That was the word from team owner Jerry Jones on Tuesday morning. Cooper Rush has been the team’s starter since Dak Prescott’s hamstring injury, but there have been questions about whether the Cowboys will take a look at Trey Lance before his contract expires at the end of the season.
Jones has been resistant to that idea even though he traded a fourth-round pick to the 49ers in order to acquire Lance and he said that he has not changed his mind about who will start against the Panthers during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan.
“I don’t think so, I thought for the most part we did some good things out there, I still believe [Rush] gives us our best chance,” Jones said, via Tommy Yarrish of the team’s website.
Lance did not make any appearances with the Cowboys in 2023 and he made brief appearances in two November games, so his time in Dallas could end without him starting a game.
