FC Barcelona have had to adapt to the new approach and system that Hansi Flick has wanted to implement. The Catalan giants, for better or for worse, have been instructed to gradually move away from their traditional style. For the German coach, however, his style is the one he wants Barcelona to adapt to.
While certain players continue to show signs of struggle, especially with the intensity of Flick’s system, others have managed to thrive. Raphinha, for instance, has been enjoying arguably his best start to a season ever so far in his professional career, and others are similarly playing well too.
However, there is still also no denying the fact that this team is full of young players who are aspiring to reach new heights. With an average age that is even below 24, this is a rather youthful and inexperienced Barcelona team that just so happens to be one of Europe’s most lethal sides right now.
It is especially due to the youthfulness of this squad, however, that a player like Inigo Martinez becomes essential. As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, there are clear reasons behind why Spanish veteran Inigo Martinez has managed to establish himself as Hansi Flick’s most trusted player this season.
The 33-year-old defender, despite the shortcomings of his age, has managed to cement himself as a guaranteed starter within Flick’s system. Adaptable and competent in terms of executing tactical orders, he is one of the primary reasons why Barcelona’s high-line tactic is working so effectively this season.
So far this season, the Spaniard has played 1866 minutes for Barcelona, and that tally exceeds even those of Raphinha (1813) and Jules Kounde (1795). That is because Martinez is more than just a reliable defender, he is also an experienced leader and veteran who helps the team keep its shape.
