The Buffalo Bills did everything they could to win on Sunday, or at least the offense did. After mounting a late comeback, they still fell short, suffering a 44-42 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams.
With the loss, the Bills dropped to 10-3 on the season and now head into a crucial Week 15 matchup against the hottest team in the league, the Detroit Lions.
However, Sunday's loss was particularly heartbreaking for a few reasons. One was the outstanding performance by Josh Allen, who threw for three touchdowns and rushed for three more-becoming the first player in NFL history to accomplish such a feat.
But the loss also came with an odd and painful distinction: the Bills became the first team in NFL history to score six touchdowns, commit zero turnovers, and still lose the game.
The Bills have been one of the best teams in the league all season, and while the defense has played well overall, they struggled to contain Matthew Stafford and his offensive weapons on Sunday. This led to missed opportunities in critical moments when Buffalo needed to make stops.
Nonetheless, Josh Allen has continued to do everything in his power to keep the Bills in contention. He's been playing at an MVP level throughout Buffalo's 13 games this season, carrying the offense and showing why he's one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
If the Bills are to fulfill their Super Bowl aspirations, it may ultimately come down to more than just what Josh Allen can do. The defense needs to step up in big games and key moments, which has been a consistent issue for Buffalo in past seasons. If they can't find a way to deliver when it matters most, the same story could play out again this year.
