It now seems that every match has become a “must win” for Arsenal. The Gunners now trail Liverpool by six points, but the Reds have a game in hand, so yes, Mikel Arteta needs to start putting more W’s on the board, and soon.
Many pundits have already given the Premier League trophy to Liverpool, feeling both Arsenal and Manchester City do not have what it takes to make a title run this season. Some believe Chelsea is Liverpool’s only contender for the crown.
To me, there are still 23 league matches to be played. I find it hard to believe Liverpool will be able to maintain the pace they are currently on throughout a very busy schedule of fixtures. Yes, they will draw and they will lose matches, but will it be enough for a title chaser to catch them?
Can Arsenal make a strong run at this point in the season and beyond, or should Arteta now place more focus on the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup and the Champions League? Should the Gunners strive to maintain just a top four league place be qualify for next year’s UCL?
I really don’t think that is Arteta’s DNA. The club will put everything into every match to win, to secure points and to lift trophies this campaign. There is no quit in Mikel Arteta.
However, his squad needs to find ways to play a notch better than the competition. They can’t play just as equals, instead they must learn to dominate teams every match. I believe Arsenal has enough good players to rotate onto the pitch and wins games. Of course, Arteta needs to solidify the left back position due to injuries. I think Kieran Tienrey could be one of his answers if he gives the lad another chance to prove his worth as an Arsenal star player.
Yes, there are a lot of matches to be played, and a lot of surprises yet to unfold. It’s too early to give up hope on anything at this point.
Play to win, and win to play.
COYG!
Cheers.
