After nearly a year of reports that claimed an agreement between Real Madrid and wantaway Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies at the end of the latter’s contract was inevitable, Bayern fans were recently treated to some very different news. Apparently, there is a chance the Canadian could stay after all! Florian Plettenberg continues to claim the club is optimistic in its’ pursuit to renew Davies, but threw a curveball in a surprise new contender for the treble winner’s services:
In recent months, especially during the summer, clubs from Saudi Arabia have shown strong interest in Alphonso Davies. They made inquiries and held discussions. Even Al-Ahli was involved. However, a transfer never materialized. FC Bayern are working hard on extending his contract beyond 2025 and are optimistic about finalizing it soon. Davies is set to be developed into one of the faces of the club. For now, though, Davies is sidelined with a hamstring strain.
But Christian Falk claims that the club’s supposed optimism is closer to desperation:
FC Bayern is putting pressure on Alphonso Davies (24) to sign a new contract before Christmas. The club would like a decision before Davies has the opportunity to meet with Manchester United and Real Madrid in January. Davies’ side is still hesitating and is considering continuing negotiations in the new year.
What do you think about the recent news? Seriously, what is the common consensus? This Davies saga is taking turn after turn and is showing no signs of slowing or stopping any time soon.
