Luka Doncic has returned to regular action for the Dallas Mavericks. He looks great and putting on the kind of performances which should eventually garner MVP buzz. His friend and rival Nikola Jokic is putting up massive numbers for the Denver Nuggets while the team struggles. Giannis Antetokounmpo is leading the charge for the Bucks to get back in contention while playing in the minor league conference.
All of this is the perfect storm for Dallas fans to find fault with the coverage of other two stars. Add the NBA’s MVP Ladder rankings from earlier in the week and so much of what I’m hearing from fans, past how good Dallas is looking, is how annoyed they are with the seeming hypocrisy in how Doncic is covered in relation to the other stars in the league. That felt like the perfect time to bring in Jason Gallagher, one of the media’s staunchest Luka supporters, to talk about this phenomenon.

We work through so much in an hour, it’s hard to summarize. We talk narratives, how the form and stick and why others don’t. We talk about the MVP itself, how the Bontemps Poll influences voters, whether voting should be public or not. We talk about Doncic’s greatness and whether the MVP matters relative to winning a title. This is long and wide-ranging podcast and I really recommend it.
