Chris Boswell is on pace to break the NFL’s single-season record for field goals made

Steelers kicker Chris Boswell is closing in on an NFL record for field goals.

Boswell has made 36 of his 39 field goal attempts through 13 games this season. If he continues at his current pace for four more weeks, he’ll finish this season with 47 field goals made.

The NFL record is 44 field goals, set by 49ers kicker David Akers in 2011.

It’s been a record-breaking season for kickers across the NFL, with field goals flying at lengths unseen before. Boswell has made 11 field goals from beyond 50 yards, which was the record until this year, when Texans kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn broke it. (Fairbairn has 13 field goals of 50 or more yards through 13 games.)

Boswell, who is also 29-for-29 on extra points, is having one of the best kicking seasons in NFL history.
