Earlier today, numerous outlets claimed Marcus Rashford was ‘fighting to save’ his Manchester United career.
The Telegraph claimed some of the forward’s ‘lifestyle choices’ had prompted concerns amongst United’s hierarchy, more recently his notorious clubbing incident in Belfast; he’d been out parting and drinking heavily midweek before reporting ill for Friday’s training session. As a result, he was consequently dropped for the weekend’s FA Cup tie against Newport County.
Rashford hasn’t really covered himself in glory on the pitch, either – not for a long time. Fans hoped he had finally hit the heights expected of him when he bagged 30 goals for the first time in 2022/2023; the club did, too, as he was rewarded with a lucrative five-year deal while becoming one of the side’s highest earners, alongside Casemiro, on £325,000 per week.
Then, when he followed up the career-best campaign with a measly eight goals in 43 appearances across 2023/2024, he again began cutting that all too familiar frustrated figure on the pitch each week.

Such continued lacklustre showings saw Rashford dropped from the England squad for Euro 2024. Now, four months into the season, he is yet to return to the setup, with his last cap coming in March. Interim coach Lee Carsley opted against utilising him in the first breaks of the term, and it remains to be seen if Thomas Tuchel will restore the 27-year-old to the squad amidst such fierce attacking competition.
Yet, Graeme Bailey believes that, regardless of how Rashford fares in the near future, he is at no risk of being sold this winter. He will be given chances to prove himself to new boss Ruben Amorim, ‘according to Old Trafford insiders’, despite being dropped for the last two matches against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, where he featured for a combined 62 minutes across both games.
