‘Accept the reality’: Mikel Arteta drops fresh Arsenal injury update with 7 stars missing

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided a fresh injury update ahead of the Champions League clash against AS Monaco at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners played out a frustrating 1-1 draw against Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday. They struggled to create any clear-cut chances from open play at Craven Cottage.

Arteta will want an improvement against Monaco on Wednesday night and ahead of the game, the Spanish tactician did not specify who could be fit among the injured players.

The manager told reporters: “We have to manage a lot of the players. Some of them probably aren’t going to be fit. Some are still a doubt.

“We have 24 hours to make a decision and hopefully it’ll be the right ones. It is what it is. We need to accept the reality and move forward.

“I’m really happy with the way we’re playing. The good thing is it’s not conditioning the team in such a way that we have to change as a team.”

Arsenal have had plenty of defensive injuries this campaign and there were without seven key players in the training session earlier on Tuesday.

Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are long-term injury absentees. Gabriel Magalhaes, Riccardo Calafiori and Oleksandr Zinchenko were also missing.

Aside from the quintet, the Gunners were without Thomas Partey and Jurrien Timber. It appears the duo may have picked up knocks at the weekend.

Regardless of this, Arsenal should go into tomorrow’s game as favourites and they need a victory to boost their prospects of finishing in the top eight.

The club are currently seventh in the league phase of the Champions League with 10 points. They are tied with seven clubs on the same number of points.

Goal difference could be a major factor in deciding the top eight, who are guaranteed a spot in the round of 16 without the need for a knock-out play-off.

There will most likely be changes against Monaco. Arteta has already confirmed that Kieran Tierney could be in line to start amid the vast number of injuries.
