Micah Richards explains why he thinks Chelsea’s Cole Palmer is now better than Phil Foden

Chelsea’s best player added another elite performance to his collection at the weekend as the Blues completed their comeback 4-3 win over Tottenham.

Cole Palmer found the net twice, including a sensational Panenka penalty that wowed manager Enzo Maresca.

Gary Lineker likened Palmer to Lionel Messi with his work that eventually led to Enzo Fernandez’s goal, with his importance to the side remaining way more than just his goals.

The England international reached 50 goal contributions in just 48 Premier League games, and talk has continued over whether he is the best player in the league right now.

Micah Richards thinks Cole Palmer is clear of Phil Foden

He is frequently compared to former club teammate Phil Foden, however Micah Richards now believes he has surpassed his England colleague.

He said to ‘The Rest is Football’: “Imagine them two In the same team. I’ll say it again. The difference between Palmer and Foden is that Cole can do it in any team. I remember his season last year. He was probably unlucky not to get Player of the Year, but what Foden did, with them winning the league and everything.

“But to answer your question, in terms of best in the league, I think he is. I think he is making the biggest difference in any team.”

Palmer’s importance to Chelsea has already been shown of late, when he survived mass changes for the Premier League game against Southampton.

He has been able to get his rests when the Blues have taken part in Conference League action, with their next game being on Thursday night against Astana.

With -11 degree temperatures awaiting them, Maresca could hand as many as eight first team debuts as he looks to protect his first team stars ahead of a busy run in around Christmas time.
