AJ Dybantsa officially committed to play college basketball at BYU on Tuesday morning. The top-ranked recruit in the Class of 2025 is expected to receive a large fortune in NIL money to play what will likely be one single season in Provo.

He will be a multi-millionaire as an 18-year-old freshman.

Dybantsa, a 6-foot-9, 200-pound small forward with a wingspan greater than seven feet, is already projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. His highlight tape will make it very obvious why that is the case.

Dybantsa averaged 19.1 points and 9.6 rebounds at St. Sebastian’s School in Massachusetts last season. He also led Team USA to a U17 World Cup championship behind a stat line of 14 points, four rebounds and four assists per game.

Now at Utah Prep Academy, Dybantsa began his senior year last week and picked up right where he left off. The five-star recruit is averaging 14 points and 14 rebounds per game with five assists and three steals.

There has been a lot of chatter about where AJ Dybantsa could end up on the college level. BYU always seemed to be the frontrunner but Alabama, UNC, Kansas State, Auburn and USC were also in the mix.

In the end, it was the Cougars who received his formal commitment on Tuesday morning.

Stephen A. Smith could not believe Dybantsa’s decision but Dybantsa put him in his place.

Dybantsa is also going to be well compensated. His decision is valued at more than $3 million.

One college basketball analyst said Dybantsa could receive an NIL deal at a number north of $7 million. Pete Nakos of On3 also reported that Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith and CEO of basketball operations Danny Ainge were willing to pay whatever amount necessary to land the star forward. They are both alumnus of Brigham Young and offered a blank check to their alma mater’s NIL fund.

AJ Dybantsa is going to get paid no less than $4 million for what essentially equates to nine months of work. BYU, with help of the Jazz brass, spared no expense.
