Southampton announced the opening of a new St Marys Stadium pub, called The Dell. It's not the announcement Saints fans wanted before the Tottenham match.
Southampton host Tottenham Hotspur this weekend in the Premier League. Not that there's ever an ideal time to face a big six club but this certainly isn't the right time for Southampton to welcome Tottenham.
And no, it's not because Spurs are in-form. In fact, they are far from it, since they are probably the only team in more inconsistent form than the Saints (hey... at least we're consistently bad).
But, it's all sunshine and rainbows - St Marys Stadium has a new pub!
In an official statement released by Southampton FC, it's confirmed that The Dell, a swanky new pub with a modern interior, will open at St Marys Stadium before the Tottenham match this Sunday.
The Dell prides itself on honouring Southampton's history as a football club but also honing the essence of the port city. The Dell will prioritise locally sourced ingredients.
The venue is open everyday, not just on matchdays. It will showcase live sports and it features dartboards and a shuffleboard table - A shuffleboard table can be booked for £10 for an hour.
Look, we'd be remiss not to mention the other announcement which Southampton fans were probably anticipating more than the opening of a new pub. I am, of course, referring to Russell Martin's position as club manager.
As it stands, Russell Martin is under no threat to lose his job. In fact, the Southampton boss will be on the touchline as we host Tottenham this Sunday.
So, the end of 2024 saw a new pub open at St Marys Stadium. You might have to excuse the fans if they aren't overly excited by the news, considering the current state of the club.
Still, it's not all doom and gloom. It does add to the club culture and it adds a new element to matchdays, which should hopefully brighten the mood at St Marys. This is the aim, at least.
