'Really sharp': Jermain Defoe really impressed by what he's seen from 'brilliant' Chelsea player

Chelsea’s first-team star has earned some special praise from former Premier League striker Jermain Defoe after the weekend’s dramatic victory against Tottenham.

Chelsea picked up another three points in the Premier League with their 4-3 away victory at Spurs.

There’s so many individuals in the Blues squad that are in great form right now, which has led to a five-game winning streak across all competitions.

Enzo Maresca appears to be going from strength to strength in his role as the club’s head coach. Levi Colwill claims Maresca has installed belief in Chelsea’s players to help massively improve them on the pitch this season.

Jermain Defoe impressed by Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho

Jermain Defoe singled out Chelsea’s Jadon Sancho for massive praise after his contribution versus Spurs a couple of days ago.

The 24-year-old winger scored the first of his side’s four goals in spectacular fashion, firing in a low finish from outside of the penalty box.

“These wingers like Jadon Sancho get 1v1 and do their stuff. I thought he looked really sharp yesterday [against Spurs],” Defoe told Sky Sports Premier League.

“It’s almost like he’s been playing with the handbrake [on]. You’d see him too many times he’d receive it and it would go back and you’re sort of like, ‘Just go at people!’.

Ian Wright thinks Chelsea’s Sancho has rediscovered his form since his move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

In 10 Blues appearances this season, the English attacker has contributed two goals and five assists.

His strike on Sunday was a sign of the confidence he’s playing with right now. Paul Merson described Sancho’s goal at Spurs as “phenomenal”.

It’s bad news for Mykhailo Mudryk

There’s so many fascinating battles for starting positions taking place all over the Chelsea squad, including on the left wing. As it stands, Sancho is surely the first-choice left-winger ahead of Mykhailo Mudryk.

While Sancho is showing consistency and maturity, Mudryk still looks a bit erratic on the football pitch.

Mudryk has scored three goals and created five assists in 15 appearances this season, but all of his attacking contributions have been across the various cup competitions. The rapid winger has only started one Premier League match so far this campaign.

Mudryk, 23, may need to do something spectacular to force his way into Chelsea’s best XI ahead of Sancho.
