Enzo Fernandez drops honest Chelsea Premier League title verdict in emphatic two-word message

"Let's dream" are the words of Enzo Fernandez when asked if Chelsea have what it takes to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

Sunday evening's dramatic victory at Tottenham, inspired by another sensational performance from Fernandez, has seen the Blues move to within four points of leaders Liverpool in the top-flight table. However, the Reds do now have a game in-hand on their rivals after their Merseyside Derby fixture with Everton was postponed on Saturday afternoon.

"The truth is there's still a long way to go, almost half a season, it's a lot," Fernandez said to SportsCenter following the win at Spurs. "Obviously one always dreams, as a team we dream.

"Could we win the title this season? I think we've been doing things very well and obviously, yes, we want to. Let's dream and we're going to keep working and staying focused on what we want."

He added: "What stands out is this team's effort and bravery. I am very, very happy."

Fernandez scored the goal that put Chelsea ahead for the first time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. After a fine team move, Cole Palmer's deflected effort fell into the path of the Argentina international, who produced an unstoppable left-footed strike into the bottom corner.

It was the 23-year-old's third goal of the season for Chelsea in all competitions. In his last eight matches for the Blues, Fernandez has scored three goals and produced seven assists. It has been some turnaround for the former Benfica man.

In the earlier parts of this season, Fernandez's role within the team under Enzo Maresca was being questioned. Romeo Lavia seemed to form a strong partnership with Moises Caicedo and people were beginning to wonder just where Fernandez fitted in to all of this.

However, his rejuvenation in recent matches has been remarkable - and Maresca is beginning to see why Chelsea splashed £106million on his services in January 2023. Speaking on the Argentine during his press conference last week, Maresca said: "He is improving a lot, especially in terms of understanding the game and understanding the position.

"He is in the right position; he is arriving in the box, he is always there. This is what we want from the attacking players.

"For sure, he has many things he can do better, but not only Enzo, all of the squad and all of the players. He is in the right way."

Fernandez will almost certainly be given a rest on Thursday when Chelsea take on Astana in Kazakhstan. The Argentine has played 180 minutes in total over the last seven days and the Blues are expected to name a very youthful side in their fifth UEFA Conference League league phase game.
