Arne Slot explains Alisson's Liverpool return as Caoimhin Kelleher knows exactly where he stands

Arne Slot says "it feels really good to have Alisson" back as the Liverpool goalkeeper made his comeback against Girona.

The Reds traveled to Spain on Tuesday for their latest Champions League clash. It was initially unclear whether Caoimhin Kelleher or Alisson would start the game, with the latter fit again after suffering a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace two months ago.

Kelleher has arguably been the best goalkeeper in the Premier League during the last two months, but Slot has immediately brought Alisson back into the lineup on his return. The Liverpool boss explained his decision before Tuesday's game.

Slot told TNT Sports: "It feels really good to have Alisson back, we didn't want to take any risk at all. Now he is completely ready to start."

Slot's decision was immediately pondered by former Reds player Stephen Warnock. The ex-defender told BBC Radio 5 Live ahead of Tuesday's game: "I think what you have to say is, is it the best decision?

"I think it is because Alisson is the best goalkeeper in world football. The opportunity to give him time tonight and game time is good. Will he be busy tonight or just more getting him back in it and getting a feel for it again."

Ot remains to be seen whether Slot will stick with Alisson for the Premier League game against Fulham at Anfield on Saturday. Liverpool is in a fabulous position in the table, sitting four points clear of Chelsea in second with a game in hand.

After explaining his decision to play Alisson on Tuesday, Slot continued: "This is a special occasion for Girona. It is always a special occasion for the team we face and it is nice to be in the position we are in in the Champions League.

"Our players are so experienced, they know what it means to play Champions League for this club. I assume they are ready for it, they have to be. The style of Girona is something we have to be aware of."
