The latest transfer talk from Manchester United as the Red Devils prepare for the January transfer window.
Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for a France international after Luke Shaw suffered a setback in his bid to return to the starting eleven on a regular basis.
There has been some uncertainty surrounding Shaw’s long-term future at Old Trafford as he continues to be hampered by knee and calf injuries that have limited the 34-times capped England full-back to just three appearances in all competitions so far this season.
All three of those appearances came in the aftermath of Ruben Amorim’s appointment as Shaw came off the bench in Premier League games against Ipswich Town and Everton as well as the Europa League clash with Bodo/Glimt. However, Shaw was absent from the Red Devils squad for the league defeats against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest after United confirmed he had suffered a ‘small setback’. Despite that disappointment, the left-back received the overwhelming support of his new head coach as Amorim described Shaw as ‘a very important player’.
As per the club website, he told Amazon Prime: "What I said to him, as a coach is, that since I am here, I saw him in the medical department. I saw him in the gym. I saw him losing weight. I saw him training. So he did everything right. Sometimes, when you have one or two injuries, it's really hard to recover. If he continues with this behaviour, doing everything he can, I will be here. All the staff will be here, as long as it takes. We believe a lot in him, he's so important for our team. For the future, I see in this team, Luke is a very important player for us."

Despite Amorim’s comments, reports in Italy have suggested United are considering alternative options at left-back and are ‘evaluating’ a possible move for AC Milan and France star Theo Hernandez. The 27-year-old defender moved to the San Siro during the summer of 2019 and was a key part of the side that secured the Serie A title in 2022. In total, Hernandez has now made 230 appearances for Milan and is roundly regarded as one of the most consistent full-backs in Italian football’s top tier.
However, the 36-times capped France international will enter into the final 18 months of his current deal with Milan in the new year and negotiations over an extended contract are ‘not experiencing its best phase’ according to CalcioMercato. The same report also suggests United and Real Madrid are both considering a move for Hernandez and a price tag that has reduced to less than £44m has now been stated.
