Manchester United are in need of a victory when they face Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday.
The Red Devils had endured a dismal start to the campaign both domestically and in Europe under former manager Erik ten Hag and, while Ruben Amorim won two and drew one of his first three matches in charge, United have since lost twice.
Saturday’s 3-2 defeat against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford leaves Amorim’s side 13th in the Premier League table, and they currently occupy 12th place in the Europa League group phase standings, with only the top eight sides qualifying automatically for the knockout stages of the competition.
If they fail to finish in the top eight, United will have to go through a play-off round to ensure progression into the knockouts.
Ahead of the January transfer window, those in charge of the club’s recruitment will have one eye on potential incomings.
With that in mind, it appears that one of the club’s promising young players could soon fall further down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
As per GiveMeSport, full-back Harry Amass could fell further out of favour in the new year as United look to bring in a new left-back.
The 17-year-old is very highly rated by those in charge of the Red Devils’ academy but hasn’t yet made his senior debut for the club despite recent injuries to both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Amass is yet to make his senior debut for Man United
Shaw made his first appearance of the season last month, while Malacia had been absent for more than a year but has also recently returned to action.
England international Shaw has since suffered a setback and is set for another spell on the sidelines, but the report suggests that Amorim is keen to sign an experienced new left-back rather than giving Amass opportunities to prove himself.
Amass has been named on the bench for United on a number of occasions, but the report suggests that he may not force his way into the first team any time soon.
The teenager is contracted to his boyhood club until the end of the 2026/27 campaign.
