Girona vs Liverpool: 4 things you missed in the Reds' tough win

Liverpool just about saw off Girona in the UEFA Champions League. Here are four things you might have missed.

That's another three points for Liverpool in the Champions League. They remain the only team with maximum points and are very much on course to top the table.

That would make Liverpool the first team to ever top the Champions League table, of course.

Mo Salah made the difference. He bagged a penalty - his fifth such goal of the season - and that settled it. It wasn't the most dominant win in the world but they keep on coming - that's the important thing.

Here's what you might have missed.

Joe Gomez nearly scores

Oh, it was so close. An early corner found Joe Gomez right in front of goal but his close-range header went straight at the goalkeeper.

Heartbreaking, in a way, given Gome has never actually scored a professional goal. This should have been his moment - but instead he's back to waiting.

Trent's new-look role

We saw more of Trent Alexander-Arnold's shift in position here. The 'right-back' found himself all over the pitch, particularly in the first-half, as Liverpool looked to trouble Girona early.

He was drifting onto the right, into the middle, joining counter-attacks, as well as taking up his traditional role. This is something we'll likely see more of as the campaign goes on.

Injury and a bedding-in process has slowed the transition down but Alexander-Arnold's role is changing. This was a taster.

Mo Salah milestone

Mo Salah scored the goal in a 1-0 win for the 10th time since joining Liverpool. Per Michael Reid on Twitter, he's the sixth player to do reach that mark in Red.

But that's not all. Salah also moved just one goal behind Billy Liddel in the Liverpool all-time goalscoring charts.

He's not done breaking records - with or without a new contract.

Szoboszlai loses his cool

An interesting one, this. Dominik Szoboszlai appeared to lose his cool a little bit in the second half there. Understandably so, too.

He seemed upset at Liverpool's lack of pressing. The Hungarian had made the effort but no teammates joined him in it - and that's a problem.

It's one to keep an eye on over the next month, too. Liverpool do look a little leggy and it might just have an effect on their pressing and general play.

One for Arne Slot to watch.
