The Los Angeles Lakers have given LeBron James plenty over the last year. He signed a massive two-year $101.3 million contract in the offseason with a no-trade clause. The Lakers also drafted his son and hired his former podcast co-host to be their head coach. Things have not gone as planned for the franchise, but they have done their best to keep King James happy.
The Lakers have lost seven of their last ten and desperately need to make moves before the Feb. 6 trade deadline. Role players top their wish list, but Rob Pelinka and the front office have been hesitant to trade draft picks. LeBron turns 40 later this month, so it is now or never for the GOAT and the franchise.

If LeBron suddenly wants out, he certainly took advantage of the Lakers. They are not the first organization to acquiesce to their superstar, but they did it with the plan of keeping LeBron in LA. Things will go from bad to worse if James moves on.
LeBron has a no-trade clause, which will limit the return. He will pick his destination, and the Lakers will virtually be forced to take back whatever is offered. The Bradley Beal trade to the Suns is the perfect example.
The Lakers would be left with a minimal return and a significantly worse roster. They may decide to go full rebuild or pivot to creating a contender around Anthony Davis. Los Angeles would be looking for a second star, but finding out won’t be easy.
LeBron James convinced the Los Angeles Lakers to make several moves during his tenure, and many did not work. For him to abruptly leave midseason would be a crushing blow, especially after all the things the franchise did over the last year to make him happy.
If the speculation proves true, LeBron may be in the Bay Area playing next to Stephen Curry as the Lakers search for answers. It is an unlikely doomsday scenario, but when there is smoke. Expect plenty more rumors as trade season heats up. If the Lakers do not improve, LeBron may want out. It is just too soon to tell.
