Manchester United are interested in the services of Bayern Munich’s Austrian midfield star Konrad Laimer.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United have been keeping a close eye on Konrad Laimer and they were recently quite impressed with his performances. While they are interested in him, there is no concrete interest in signing him at this stage.
Laimer came up the ranks at Red Bull Salzburg and made a name for himself while playing for their first team before making the move to the Bundesliga in the summer of 2017. He moved to sister club RB Leipzig and after making a name for himself in the German top flight, the Austrian international ended up joining giants Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023.
The 27-year-old prefers playing as a central midfielder but he has often been used as a right-back as well as defensive midfielder. Laimer has done well in all there of those performances. While he is an important squad player at the German club, he hasn’t had enough minutes this season.
He has been involved in 17 matches and has racked up 775 minutes of first-team football. The lack of game time has resulted in talks about his future at the club. While his contract at Bayern runs until the summer of 2027, Manchester United seem to be interested in prising him away.
United are impressed by Laimer’s performances
The Red Devils are quite impressed with his recent performances and a utility player like Laimer could do wonders for them as he will add depth in the midfield as well as the full-back department. While the Manchester-based are interested in him, they haven’t established any contact with him or his representatives regarding a potential transfer.
United haven’t taken any steps towards signing him and no other discussions have been held so far. For now, the Red Devils remain focused on other important transfer targets to reinforce Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Despite the lack of minutes, Laimer is quite happy at Bayern. He wants to continue at the German club as he believes he remains an important player under Vincent Kompany.
While United have been impressed with what they have seen, it will be interesting to see if their interest actually develops into something more concrete. Even if it does, they will have a lot of convincing to do.
