Jamie Carragher has pulled no punches towards Sir Jim Ratcliffe after the Ineos chief’s “really poor” start at Old Trafford as Manchester United co-owner.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe became co-owner of Manchester United in 2023 after the 72-year-old British billionaire captured a minority stake in the Premier League club.
Ineos took control of football operations at Old Trafford after the minority stake purchase and Ratcliffe has made sweeping changes at the Red Devils.
However, Ratcliffe has faced scathing criticism during his run at United, including axing Sir Alex Ferguson from his ambassadorial contract at the end of the season.
Ineos have also caused controversy over matchday ticket prices and Red Devils supporters staged a protest ahead of the 4-0 win against Everton at Old Trafford.
Ratcliffe has initiated other changes at United, including ending the ‘work-from-home culture’ at the Premier League club by enforcing a return-to-office mandate.

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been placed under the spotlight on the weekend after Dan Ashworth’s shock exit from Old Trafford.
MORE UNITED STORIES
Dan Ashworth, who was a key target for Ineos, arrived at the Premier League club in the summer and was appointed sporting director for the Red Devils.
However, Ashworth left United after the Red Devils’ 3-2 Premier League defeat over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The Athletic claimed that Ratcliffe had ‘been pivotal to the call to part ways’ with Ashworth, who lasted only five months at United.
Jamie Carragher highlighted the mistakes that Ratcliffe and Ineos have made at Old Trafford, including sacking Erik ten Hag as United manager during the season.
Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “The optics are awful. Who knows, in the future we might look back and think [getting rid of Ashworth] was the right decision, but when you look at it from the outside, it doesn’t look good.
“Since Ineos came in, I’m not sure it could have gone much worse. They won the FA Cup, but they kept the manager, who they didn’t really want and spent £200m in the transfer market.
“Right now, they find themselves in the lowest position they’ve been at this stage of the season.
“They’ve had to sack a manager early in the season, and the sporting director [Ashworth] who they chased from another Premier League club, and obviously paid big money for him in sporting director terms now he’s gone a few months later.”

Carragher on Ratcliffe’s run at Man Utd
Carragher admitted that the “initial” feeling for United fans was different when Ratcliffe arrived, but the mood has since changed amid the drama this season.
The Sky Sports pundit added that Ratcliffe and Ineos made a “really poor” start to their time at Old Trafford and urged them to “change really quickly.”
“If you’re a Manchester United fan, that initial joy of someone else being in charge and it not being the Glazers, it was almost anyone but the Glazers, I don’t think it’s been a great start at all,” Carragher continued.
“It’s been really poor from Jim Ratcliffe and the Ineos team, and it needs to change really quickly.”
