Boston proved to be the final stop for one of the most well-liked players in recent NHL history.
Kevin Shattenkirk, who spent the final season of his career with the Boston Bruins, [officially announced his retirement](https://x.com/shattdeuces/status/1866575463138914629) on Tuesday.
“I would like to begin by saying thank you to the seven organizations that trusted me to represent their teams and cities,” Shattenkirk said in a statement. “… Finally, to the Boston Bruins, for valuing my qualities as a player and a leader in the locker room. Thank you to all of my great general managers and coaches for treating me with respect and teaching me some great life lessons along the way.”
Shattenkirk was previously familiar with the city, spending three seasons at Boston University before being drafted No. 14 overall at the 2007 NHL Draft by Colorado.
The B’s signed him last offseason to [provide leadership on the backend](https://nesn.com/2023/12/real-pro-kevin-shattenkirk-finding-ways-to-contribute-in-first-bruins-season/) of a young defense corps, which he did in addition to providing six goals and 18 assists. Shattenkirk ended up playing a total of 952 NHL games with the Bruins, Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Anaheim Ducks but was unable to find a new home this offseason.

Shattenkirk finished with 103 goals and 381 assists across 14 seasons.
