Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United could miss out on their full-back target Alphonso Davies who is also on Real Madrid’s wishlist.
According to a report from GiveMeSport, Manchester United might fail to secure the services of Alphonso Davies. While he is one of their priority targets to reinforce Ruben Amorim’s squad, there are growing concerns that his demands will be beyond the Red Devils’ capabilities.
Bayern Munich signed Davies at the start of 2019 from Major League Soccer outfit Vancouver. He has gone from strength to strength over the years and has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the world. While he is a key figure in the German club, his contract situation has resulted in a lot of talk about his future.
Davies’ current deal runs out at the end of the season. He will be free to discuss a pre-agreement with foreign clubs starting January and quite a few clubs are looking to make the most out of it.
While the Canadian international and his agent Nick Househ were initially in favour of extending his stay at Bayern, they are not happy with the way the German giants have conducted themselves during negotiations. As a result, they are open to listen to offers from other top clubs.
Manchester United and Real Madrid are two of the biggest clubs who are keen on his signature. Los Blancos are constantly on the lookout for players who can further bolster their squad. While they do have Ferland Mendy in their ranks, they consider Davies an upgrade and with him potentially available for free, the Spanish giants won’t want to miss out on him.
United might not succeed in their pursuit of Davies
While the team from Madrid are working on a potential, the Manchester-based club have suffered a blow in their pursuit. They are at risk of failing to win the race for one of their top targets as his financial demands could be beyond their reach.
They might not have to pay a transfer fee but his wage demands along with a hefty signing fee complicate things for the Red Devils. More importantly, the 24-year-old full-back doesn’t really seem to be desperate to make the move to Old Trafford.
United could miss out on him because of the financial side of things as well as the stiff competition that they have to face. While the Manchester-based club are looking to hold talks with the £180,000-per-week star in the upcoming transfer window, they are unlikely to come out on top here.
Amorim will most likely have to look at alternatives to reinforce the left-back position which has been a major problem for United for some time now. With Luke Shaw struggling to stay fit and Tyrell Malacia recently returning from a long-term injury, they do need to add more quality. While Davies will be an ideal fit into the Portuguese manager’s system, he is unlikely to move to Old Trafford in 2025.
