The Bears on Tuesday announced Doughboy's Chicago as the second winner of the 2024-2025 Small Business All-Pros program, presented by PNC. From Dec. 10-23, Doughboy's Chicago will be featured across the Bears' digital platforms and social media as well as in-stadium promotions during the Dec. 22 game against the Detroit Lions at Soldier Field.
Located at 352 East 71st Street in the center of Chicago's Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood, Doughboy's Chicago has become a cornerstone for homemade meals on the South Side. Renowned for its commitment to locally-sourced quality ingredients and bold flavors, the restaurant specializes in creative, soulful dishes that bring people together in the spirit of traditional recipes.
Doughboy's Chicago was founded in 2018 by co-owners Nicole and Chris "Doughboy" Fryison, whose concept for a restaurant was born out of a passion for creating a welcoming space where neighbors could enjoy comfort food rooted in traditional recipes. Since its opening, Doughboy's Chicago has grown into a beloved community establishment, known for its high-quality food, exceptional service and commitment to accessibility. On game days, Doughboy's Chicago transforms into a Bears-themed space with special menu items, trivia contests and giveaways.
"The Chicago Bears' Small Business All-Pro program provides an incredible opportunity to refine and strengthen our operations," said Nicole Fryison. "By enhancing our marketing strategies and increasing our visibility in the local market, we aim to attract new customers and expand our community presence. We are especially excited about the chance to develop innovative promotional campaigns and collaborate with new partners. Being part of this program will not only elevate our restaurant but also deepen our connection to the community and create a foundation for long-term success. We are truly grateful to the Chicago Bears and PNC for this opportunity."
Popular menu items at Doughboy's Chicago include their signature dish, Spaghedough – spaghetti made with ground turkey – jerk and grilled chicken salads, the DOFRIESEN Turkey Burger Supreme with Fries, their baked herbal wings and hearty combos like The Gladiator, which features two grilled catfish or tilapia fillets paired with Spaghedough, vegetable medley and a roll.
"On behalf of PNC, congratulations to Doughboy's Chicago and its owners. Their dedication to tradition and bold flavors makes them a standout in Chicago's South Side restaurant scene," said Scott Swanson, PNC regional president of Illinois. "We look forward to the program powering their business growth beyond the end zone."
Doughboy's Chicago's commitment to the community goes beyond serving meals. The restaurant sources fresh ingredients from local farmers and vendors, ensuring their supply chain supports neighborhood businesses and keeps resources circulating within the local economy. This approach not only provides diners with high-quality, fresh meals but also fosters economic growth by creating and sustaining jobs for nearby farms and suppliers. In partnership with Grow Greater Englewood, Doughboy's Chicago reduces food waste by donating surplus food to local shelters, ensuring those in need benefit from their efforts.
Additionally, Doughboy's Chicago participates in the Restaurant Meals Program through the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS), offering hot, prepared meals to families relying on SNAP benefits, allowing thousands of families in low-income communities to have access to affordable, nutritious food. The restaurant also collaborates with Chicago City Colleges and Chicago Public Schools, serving as a vendor to provide meals for staff and student events and helping address food insecurity in the area. By playing a critical role in supporting families who face daily nutritional challenges, Doughboy's Chicago continues to be a vital resource for the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.
