Liverpool came through an awkward Champions League night in Girona with their 100 per cent record intact on Tuesday.
The Reds headed into the match top of the table having won five games out of five.
Facing the team sitting in 30th place, Liverpool were heavy favourites to make it six out of six.
And the Reds’ chances were boosted ahead of kick-off, with the news that Alisson Becker was set to start for the first time since October the 5th.
Caoimhin Kelleher has been brilliant while standing in for Alisson, but the return of Liverpool’s No.1 was always going to be a big moment.
As it turned out, Liverpool needed Alisson against Girona. The Spanish side peppered his goal early on, but the Brazilian stood firm. And after such a long time out, Alisson shared a moment with the travelling Reds fans after the game.

Alisson salutes travelling Liverpool fans
It has been a frustrating couple of months for Alisson. The 32-year-old was visibly angry after picking up his latest injury at Selhurst Park in October.
Kelleher’s form in his absence will have helped ease that disappointment, but it will also likely have made him desperate to get back in and prove his worth again.

It didn’t take Alisson long to do that in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The Brazil international had a claim to be Liverpool’s best player on the night, making a string of good saves to keep a clean sheet on his return.

And after the game, journalist James Pearce shared what he’d spotted Alisson doing in celebration of his shutout.
“Alisson goes across to salute the travelling Kop,” says Pearce on X, while sharing a video of the goalie doing just that. “Only 490 of them here tonight due to stadium’s small capacity but they made themselves heard.”
Alisson shows why he’s No.1
Alisson was brilliant against Girona. He showed exactly why he should still be considered Liverpool’s No.1, despite the form of Kelleher.
With five saves, Alisson was certainly kept busy, and should have shaken off any rust that may have been lingering following his injury.
The ‘keeper was also effective with the ball at his feet, making 27 out of 35 accurate passes on the night.
Alisson is now virtually certain to start in the Premier League against Fulham on Saturday and should hopefully now stay fit for the rest of the campaign.
Kelleher deserves all of his praise, but Alisson is simply a class apart.
