Liverpool duo make history in Girona win

Two Liverpool players made history on Tuesday as the Reds beat Girona 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool made it six wins in six Champions League games this season on Tuesday, securing a 1-0 win over the Spanish side.

The win came courtesy of a second-half penalty by Mohamed Salah–his 16th goal in all competitions this season.

The goal also took Salah’s goal involvement for this season to 28 (16 goals and 22 assists), making him the player with the most goals and assists in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

Salah’s goal also ensured he entered Liverpool’s history books alongside Alisson Becker, who started his first game for the club since October.

By scoring on Tuesday, Salah became the first player in Liverpool’s history to score 50 goals in European competitions.

By converting his spot-kick, he also equalled Steven Gerrard’s record of six penalties scored in the Champions League for Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Alisson Becker, who kept his 21st clean sheet for Liverpool, equalled Pepe Reina’s record for the most clean sheets for Liverpool in the Champions League.
