'I was watching': Destiny Udogie kept making one 'terrible' mistake during Tottenham vs Cheslea - ESPN pundit

Tottenham Hotspur blew a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 against Chelsea in the Premier League.

Spurs have had a terrible few weeks. The North Londoners enjoyed the highs of battering Manchester City, but things have not been great at all since.

The win over Pep Guardiola’s side was their only victory in their last seven games in all competitions. That has pushed them down to 11th in the Premier League table.

Tottenham’s latest defeat was against Chelsea, and Craig Burley was far from impressed with what Destiny Udogie kept doing all game.

Craig Burley blasts Destiny Udogie after Tottenham lose to Chelsea

Udogie is into his second full season as a regular at Tottenham.

The Italian had a very impressive debut campaign under Ange Postecoglou. He quickly became a starter and his performances, especially early in the campaign, were fantastic.

Udogie then suffered an injury that ruled him out of the final month of the season. He returned in the summer and has once again been a regular.

However, the Udinese old boy has had his problems this season. He has come under a fair bit of criticism, and something he kept doing has irked Burley, who has had a go at him.

The pundit has claimed that Udogie’s ‘positional sense’ is terrible because he was almost always in between the left-back and left-wing positions against Chelsea.

Burley said on ESPN: “I was watching Destiny Udogie during the second half and half the time, he was in the position between left-back and left midfield. It was kind of in between. And I was thinking to myself: “Where is he? Where is his game awareness?”

“It was so easy for Chelsea to get on that right-hand side. He’s not the only one, I think he is a very, very good player, but his positional sense as a full-back at times is just terrible.

“I’ve rarely seen a top-flight side as open as that in a big derby.”

Ange Postecoglou has made a mistake with Udogie

Udogie suffered a significant hamstring injury in April this year. That ruled him out of the rest of the campaign and also Euro 2024.

The Italian worked really hard over the summer to return to full fitness, and he managed to be ready before the start of the Premier League season.

That was great news for Tottenham, but we think Postecoglou has made the big mistake of overusing Udogie – he has barely had a break.

The 23-year-old has started every single game in the Premier League and has played the full 90 minutes in 11 of those 15 fixtures. The only times he has been rested were against Ferencvaros, Galatasaray and AS Roma in the Europa League.

That, in our opinion, has had an impact on his performances this season. Postecoglou is the only one to blame for that.
